Makita’s Powerful Battery Powered Chainsaw

Makita has been around for 100 years now. So it is not a stranger to power tools, and outdoor power equipment. As a matter of fact, Makita is one of the top high quality leaders in the industry. Because of this, it’s no surprise that the Makita XCU03Z is a powerhouse of a chainsaw.

Some may be weary of using battery powered OPE tools for the fear that they aren’t powerful enough to get the job done. When it comes to the Makita XCU03Z, this does not come even close to being true. In fact, the  XCU03Z is comparable to a gas powered chainsaw. The reason for this is because Makita pioneered the use of  using two battery packs together to double the voltage with their X2 line which gives 18V users the opportunity to tap into 36 volt performance. Due to this excess of power, users get better performance without having to switch to a different battery platform. Great news for users already using the battery powered makita line.

At this present time, all of the best 18 volt tools can do in the chain saw realm is create chainsaws with 12 inch bar and chains. However, even though this Makita X2 brushless chainsaw uses 18 volt batteries, it’s not an 18V tool because it’s actually a 36 volt tool by using two batteries together for more power. This allows this chainsaw to have a larger bar and chain than what’s currently possible with 18 volt at the moment by offering a 14 inch bar and chain. A larger capacity requires more power. This new X2 chainsaw is actually not Makita’s first X2 model as they have a previous X2 model that had a smaller 12 inch bar and chain and was a brushed motor tool. This new X2 model uses a brushless motor for more power.

As far as its features are concerned, you have a high quality standard fare such as the chain brake/guard, main handle with trigger and safety, second handle, oil tank & cap and includes scabbard. The trigger is a variable speed trigger. The chainsaw was developed with safety in mind as you have a safety button located just above the main handle. You also have the power button located within thumbs reach. This feature must be turned on before you are able to use the chainsaw. This saw doesn’t have any physical or mechanical flaws we can see of after testing it out.

I liked that servicing the bar and chain requires absolutely no tools at all! I also liked that the oil cap is designed so that you don’t lose it. I’ve had this saw for quite some time and after several weeks, nothing has leaked and the oil tank has the same amount of oil as when I stored it.

All in all, this is a great battery powered chainsaw. I would highly recommend taking a look at it if you are in the market for one.
